The Run Drinker’s Remorse.
Woke up at 7:10 AM with a massive pain in my quad (thanks to an hundred boot camp squats). Fail. Add to that a massive pain in my head mixed with two parts nausea (thanks to wine). Double fail.
I was going to sleep in and skip training, but I knew that if I did not get myself out of bed, running alone in my neighborhood would be a lot more difficult and a lot less motivating. Damn you, will power. So (big exhale) I made the trip to Newton anyway.
Unfortunately for me, because of my bad Friday decisions, my Saturday run was nothing short of miserable. The pain in my quad was almost unbearable (whether I should have actually run with the pain is another discussion). My nausea was only heightened when my stupidity forced three skittles into my mouth. Holy vomit.
To add injury to insult, I had to drive directly from training to rehearsal in Rhode Island. Naturally, my quad injury only worsened in its stationary position and I smelled like a sweaty gym sock to boot.
I definitely learned a lesson that weekend: easy on the alchy and honor thy rest days. Despite it all, I did learn a bit about myself. I learned that I truly am invested in this process and that I have a lot more mental toughness than I thought.
And staying out late on Friday night wasn’t a total mistake…because I never would have gotten to experience this:
