From 220 lbs to marathon training: week 4, 6 miles

Blogging my weekly progress is the best way I know how to keep myself motivated, especially when the weather becomes frightful and the distance not so delightful.

All I can say is, enjoy the sunshine and rainbows now. It only gets worse from here.

  • # of times regret running Boston Marathon: 0 (I feel this stat is important, as it will likely get higher as time passes)

THE RUN.

After two weeks recovering from an emergency wisdom tooth extraction (TEETH. plural.), I finally got back into the swing of things. I’d read that after taking time off, it’s best not to make up for lost time, so for me, it meant a 6-miler on Sunday, 11/14. Having missed the 4 and 5-milers because of Mr. Vicodin, I knew I was in for a real treat.

Surprisingly enough, I managed to finish almost 2 minutes under my normal pace of 11-minute miles. This included 4 pretty steep hills. (Experienced runners: don’t judge. I’ve done 3 races, one of which was in a reindeer outfit, so cut me some slack.)

Looking forward to the future

Given the fact that about 2 years ago I was over 220 lbs and feeling hopeless, I feel emotionally overwhelmed about where I am today in terms of health and fitness. I never would have imagined myself running down the street, let alone 6 miles. Though I have not reached my ultimate goal, I cannot overlook what I have achieved.
